About Us

Mission Statement

We, the members of Slow Food Miami, believe in creating a dialogue between food producers and food consumers in order to establish a more fair and just food system. We believe in supporting sustainable agriculture and organic farming practices. Slow Food Miami seeks to be a mode of education into the University community and the greater community beyond our campus. To us, food is meant to be enjoyed with one another. Food traditions should be preserved, and food culture should be celebrated. We strive to eat seasonally in an effort to enjoy nature’s bounty and give support to local family farmers. As a group, we will work to promote the dehomogenization of our food system, the protection of heirloom varieties and wild crop relatives, and the just and fair compensation deserved by honest and sustainable farming practices. We believe in ethical treatment for all levels of agriculture: farmer, animal, plant, land, and water. We seek to raise awareness on campus about the injustices of our food system and work to ensure fair prices so that all people can enjoy nutritious and delicious food that is grown locally and sustainably. At its core, Slow Food Miami is a diverse group of learners who seek to share in enjoying good, clean, and fair food and in caring about how that food reaches our plates.
